Metrotube ist eine Youtube App, welche letztes Jahr den Windows Phone Marketplace eroberte. Doch dieser Erfolg endete schnell. Zum 1. Januar 2012 wurde die App aus dem Markeplace gelöscht. Laut Hersteller (Lazyworm Apps) der App war ein Konflikt mit YouTube (Google) der Grund für die Entfernung aus dem Marketplace.
Die Entwickler von Metrotube haben es nämlich geschafft die Videos in HD auf die Phones zu streamen. Die offizielle YouTube API bietet aber keine richtige Methode, damit auch Drittanbieter das können. Deswegen hat sich Lazyworm Apps wohl eines “Workarounds” bedient, der Google nicht so gefallen haben dürfte. Bis heute sind es allerdings nur Spekulationen, dass Google dahinter steckt, allerdings hat sich Microsoft auch schon mal wegen einer fast Monopolstellung von YouTube beschwert, da man keine guten Apps mit den APIs bauen könne.
Wie wir soeben erfahren haben, wird Metrotube jedoch bald wieder online sein! Auf ihrer Website haben die Entwickler folgendes geschrieben:
Our goal from the very beginning was to deliver a rich YouTube experience that could be officially promoted by Microsoft (or Google). It was for this reason that we never supported features such as video download or the playback of non-mobile content and why we have spent the past 7 months investigating alternative avenues of delivering the same rich experience via official means.
We were truly hopeful that we could resolve these issues however it has gotten to the stage where we’ve exhausted all of our options.Essentially, we have done everything in our power to go through official channels without any luck. We don’t want to see the project that has consumed a year and half of our lives go to waste like this and so we’ve decided to re-launch Metrotube for free.
Hoffen wir dass alles so klappt wie sich die Entwickler das vorstellen! Die App wird vermutlich innerhalb der nächsten 24 Stunden wieder im Marketplace zur Verfügung stehen und das dann hoffentlich auch bleiben. Ich selbst hatte sie damals auf meinem Handy und es war mit Abstand die beste YouTube App!
